So You Think You Can Dance … in Toronto

After an exceptionally busy work week (no posts since Sunday! … horrific) filled with too many meetings and two days seconded to and holed up in strategic planning meetings in Mississauga (oh joy!), I did get to escape for a breather on Thursday night to see this year’s version of the hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance live on stage in Toronto with G and 9,998 other screaming pubescent girls. How gay!

You may remember G and I attended last year’s show down at Shea’s in Buffalo and I have to admit the show there was much better than Thursday’s show at the Air Canada Centre. The ACC is simply too big to get the level of intimacy vital to make this type of event work. I know where the producers are going with cash cow, taking it from its television roots to the stage and now, to rock concert status, but I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

That said, the production was great and the dancing – poor Lacey, who couldn’t dance her way to a win in a game of musical chairs, aside – fabulous! All the hits were there, the ‘Two Princes” number; the “Sweet Dreams” number; Hok and Jamie doing the gorgeous “Hummingbird” number and my favourite Jesus and Sarah doing the “Vagabonds” number. And for those of you who follow this sort of thing; the biggest applause on Thursday was for Danny and Hok.

Bring on season four!
