Ok, enough of travel posts for a bit. On to some of the things I did last week.
Fashion Cares
Saturday night G and I attended the 20th annual Fashion Cares fundraiser for AIDS research at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre … just us and 5,000 of our closest friends! Over the years the fundraisers has managed to generate $20M for AIDS research and when you factor in the dollars raised thanks to VIVA MAC GLAM as well (another $75M), that is one hellava lot of coin. Bravo to the Aids Committee of Toronto (ACT) and MAC Cosmetics for your work! And kuduos to Phillip Ing for his 20 years as artistic director for this decadent, fabulous party.
7) Blue Man Group perform; 8) lots of cute guys with ropes! Eek!
Lai Toh Heen
The sister restaurant to Toronto’s premier dim sum restaurant, Lai Wah Heen (in the Metropolitan Hotel), opened just down the road from us on Mt. Pleasant just over a week ago. On Friday I met G there for lunch. Lai Toh Heen is not cheap: witness dropping $60 for lunch for two. It will be interesting to see if it can survive at that price point where Steakfrites and Square failed before it.

1) Lai Toh Heen opens; 2) bacon-wrapped prawn & scallop roll, deep-fried ($4.00 piece);
3) Goldfish-shaped steamed dumplings with shrimp and cod-fish ($4.00 piece)
The Yellow Lantern Flower Tree
My latest Mt Pleasant Cemetery obsession has been this tree with beautiful yellow lantern-like flowers. I visited it regularly last week, and will again this week, to see how it comes along. Anyone know what kind of tree this is?…
Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me
On Tuesday we headed to the Canon Theatre to see Martin Short do his show, Fame Becomes Me. I should mention my mental deficiency for forgetting tickets is continuing. We got down to there and were shopping in Eaton Centre when Laura asked me, “Hey, where are our seats tonight, Brent?”
I reached into my courier bag to check them, and, guess what? Yep, forgot them! OMG! What is with that?! Not only lost the tickets, but the free passes for Blue Jays that came with them, a parking discount coupon and our subscription memberships cards!
OMG! Thankfully, we got them replaced at the box office. The show is a riot – especially the “I Love Titties” song in the first act with Martin and crew done up as babies in prams. It’s just sooooooo wrong that song.

1) G gets upclose with the Spam in anticipation for “Spamalot“
