It certainly gets freaking hot in Las Vegas. The first two days we lounged there the temperature was 118°F! But it’s a dry heat, the way Hell should feel I think. Las Vegas is “Sin City” afterall. We had a suite at “Rio” which is just off “The Strip”.
Rio Overview (all ratings are 0-5 where 0 is ‘horrible-avoid’; 3 ‘good’; 5 ‘exceptional’):
Check-in: 3 – though we were zombies as it was 3:30am Toronto time; initial room had wet carpet and we were given another room after 10 minutes or so waiting for security up on the 17th floor
View: 4 – super view of The Strip (Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, etc)
Value: 4 – booked last minute on Expedia.ca; excellent value for money paid
Uniquiness factor: 4 – “Carnival” theme with requisite decadence and gaudiness; fun (and free) “Masquerade in the Sky” show worth a see (you get free beads thrown at you like in New Orleans); “all suites” concept is a winner; lovely pool area; good food at “Village Seafood Buffet” (seafood in the desert is so decadent!); best view of The Strip in Vegas from Voodoo Lounge on the 51st floor of the 2nd tower
Overall: solid 4
Course, we did the typical tour of Las Vegas. G has been there several times but for me, gosh, probably back when I was a wee lad with my folks. So, we traipsed to all the sights – Caesar’s Palace, Paris, Harrah’s, the beautiful Wynn, Treasure Island, Fashion Mall, The Mirage and of course stopped to see the famous Bellagio Dancing Fountain and the stunning Dale Chihuly glass installation in it’s lobby.
Friday’s movie: The Da Vinci Code
Now, I know we’ve all been Da Vinci Coded to death but like millions elsewhere, G and I saw this flick last night in Vegas. I enjoyed it and thought it did a good job of interpreting the book. The ending was better was the beginning and, granted, it’s was too verbose and a tad too long. That said, a good 4 out of 5 for me even noting my bias: I detest Tom Hanks in anything.
