I’m a 6’1″ COC Prop!
Actually, COC stands for “Canadian Opera Company” … not … well, not what you were probably thinking. I spent much of the weekend here …
….. rehearsing for Belini’s opera, Norma, which opens at the Hummingbird Centre on March 30th. I landed a small role as a Celtic Warrior in this opera and have lots and lots of stage time … in a kilt even … hehehehe … what do boys wear under their kilts? Shsss … it’s a secret.
Anyhow, back to my COC Prop. At one point I’m carrying around this 12 foot long … spear. And at the top of this long, hard, erect piece of wood is typed “COC Prop”. I dunno, it just seemed so apropro.
Kent Larson
G spent Sunday morning doting over pictures of Kent Larson and asking me every 30 seconds, “Don’t you think he’s cute?”
Mr. Larson, as some of you may know, is a porn ‘star’. I’m loathe to call anyone who accepts money for something that is so personal and intimate, a ‘star’. But that’s the moralistic, holier-than-thou englishman in me leaking through. Course, that said, I will always make exceptions for cute asian guys
(wow, that is the first time I’ve ever used an emoticon in my blog!).
Anyway, after the 5th request to verify how hot Mr. Larson was, I resorting to writing the above note and leaving it in front of G while he sourced videos.
Sunday’s movie: Cache
Alright, who has seen this film starring Daniel Auteuil and the beautiful Juliette Binoche? We saw it Saturday night after rehearsal at the Cumberland. I just don’t know what to think? …… So strange and my gawd, there are two scenes in this movie which will last in my memory forever. Fascinating story about trust and revenge that will leave you and your friends talking for hours afterwards. I also thought it was neat how this film had no soundtrack.
Sunday’s food: Pho Hung

After Cache, we headed to Pho Hung on Bloor to debrief the movie. Now, I do think Pho Hung makes very good pho: the broth is excellent. However, we always have problems with the service there. Now, I know Pho Hung is not Lai Wan Heen, but com’on! We arrived shortly before 10pm, ordered two bowls of pho (one for Blee, one for G and I) and an order of spring rolls. We asked our waiter for a bowl so G and I could share … it never came.
… neither did the spring rolls … until the owner realized our waiter had dropped them off at a neighbouring table. Then, get this, he goes and fetches them off the table, (non-discretely) takes them back towards the kitchen and re-emerges (with presumably the same spring rolls) and deposits them on our table! OMG! Is that crappy service or what?!
No tippy-tippy for you Pho Hung.
Sunday’s construction site: Royal Ontairo Museum
Renovation work continues to go well at the ROM. The “glass” facade is going up but is not glass but some type of steel?!

Sunday’s Best Deal: Kiwis at Chinatown East
We went for dim sum this morning in Chinatown East. It has – we think – THE best deals on veggies in the city. Check out this:
Sunday’s Signs-That-Make-You-Go-Hmmmm: The Bay Store (on Bloor) Parkade
Oh the things you notice after a strange movie like Cache. Take for instance, this sign to the elevators at the Bay Parkade on Bloor.
“King” Brent
Finally, hey, I look good on a throne! (please no comments about toilets!)
