Wine-opoly

Remember Monopoly? … same concept, except with wine properties. Blee got us this game back at Christmas and we finally got down to playing it Saturday night with her. I learned several things playing this game; namely:

  • consuming wine, and good wine at that, while playing does not increase your chance of winning, though – granted – it does make playing more fun;

  • consuming copious amounts of good red wine turns your teeth violet and your tongue magenta (which, because you’ve been consuming wine and are feeling silly, makes you want to stick your tongue out to show people);

  • I am a property-rich; cash-poor kind of guy while G had very few properties and lots of cash;

  • G whines while playing until he starts winning then he gets giddy;

  • Blee was wrong, wrong, wrong, not to take my offer of trading three wine properties for her one bloody Cabernet Sauvignon property; and, finally,

  • drinking while playing Wine-opoly is good as it makes losing easier.

Wine-opoly … G won!

Saturday’s food: Korean Grill House
We’ve been saying for eons we’re going to try Korean barbeque … Saturday afternoon we finally did at the this establishment on Queen West just near CityTV. It was fun and yummy though you do leave all stinky.

Our food gets a-frying at Korean Grill House … the calamari was very good!

Saturday’s movie:
V for Vendetta

OMG! Loved it! This movie was visual, viscously visceral, violent, verbose and very Vabulous! It is based on the ‘graphic novel’ by Allan Moore and David Lloyd. It should be very interesting to see how this movie plays in the USA as it quite blatantly bashes the States and has a ‘terrorist’ in the lead. Natalie’s noggin is pretty and perfect in this movie. It’s hard to look hot with a head with no hair!

Saturday’s wine: Zenato Ripassa 2003
Folks who have been reading here a bit will remember this find we tasted at a lovely authentic Italian restaurant during our adventure in Ottawa in February. Well, aren’t we wandering through Summerhill LCBO yesterday afternoon and just about to leave when – yikes! – here’s the blessed nectar now available here! Hooray! Try it! … $23.95 in Vintages.

1) the Zenato at home; 2) the Zento in Ottawa

Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sunday’s TV
: March Madness … continues!
It’s been tv-mania for me … lots of great basketball games so far and more to come. You can get the last brackets of who’s advancing to the Sweet Sixteen here.

    wineopoly??!!  I have a friend or eight here that would looove such a game, and make us play while devouring plates of cheeses and olives.  Boardgames really do bring (drunk) people together.

    Thanks for the comment.Thus far, I’ve seen one comic book adaptation that’s been half-decent: Sin City. Been pretty disappointed with all the rest.I can’t do wine, either red or white. Something about it’s makeup gives me a hangover even in very minute quantities. I can do more shots than glasses of wine even when they have the same alcoholic content. Still, any sort of board game is always more fun when there’s drinking involved….

    wow, i haven’t played monopoly in so long…  in fact, i haven’t played a board game in quite some time either!
    ryc: that’s crazy; i definitely could never do a triathlon!  especially since i’m not a great swimmer and i can’t ride a bike….  so i’m sticking with running.  hopefully in grad school i’ll find time to train up for a marathon — it’s still a goal of mine to run one.

    Love Monopoly – that was game for a rainy or snowy day. I have to admit the beer, etc. came later on when I grew older and the game kept being brought out.
    I have not seen V but I have it on my list. My most resent view was RENT. I enjoyed the music and the story line which in most musical seems to be secondary. But held together well.

  11. Rule #1 for dining out at Korean BBQ: never wear nice clothes…hehehe…incidentally, try some of the places on Bloor St West, they are much better than that one Queen St.OMG, that Zeneto Ripasso is delicious. I got a bottle for XMas after I raved on to my hosts about how yummy it was when they served it.I’m in 2nd place so far for my March Madness pool, yayy!

    Love Korean BBQ – you’re right about the clothes getting smoky – especialy Goretex. They seem to absorb odors like a sponge. I enjoyed V as well but my bf was practically yawning the whole time. I’ll have to try the Zenato – thanks for the tip.
