I met G for lunch
today at Yonge/Davisville and afterwards we visited the future of dvd/video
rental stores: Cinematic. I have seen the future of dvd/video stores and it is
not Blockbuster or Rogers, nor downloading flicks online (though that is surely a close second).
If you live within walking distance of this corner,
immediately find and cut up your exiting dvd store rental card and go visit. On
Yonge, just north of Davisville on the west
side.

Concept is
simple:
simple:
- book your dvd on
line - walk to the
store - swipe your preloaded Cinematic card (we put $20 on
ours) at the vending machine-like
kiosk - retrieve your
dvd - go home and watch
it - return
Cost $1.00 (for 6 hours) or a whopping (but still
cheaper than anywhere) $3.49 (for 24
hours).

Concept and technology originated in Italy. Eight
stores in Montreal at the moment and aggressive plans to have near 30 stores in
Toronto within a
year. Open 24/7 every day of the year.

Friday’s anticipation: I am now 4 days away from seeing the
stage production of Lord of the Rings at the Princess of Wales. For those of you
outside Canada, the World Premier of this new production is here. It had its
official opening gala about 10 days ago. Mixed reviews
however.
Friday’s movies to see next week: Brick and Three Times
… finally, before I head off to the Hummingbird
Centre tonight these two movies which I hope to see next week:
1) Brick
Stars the cute , Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and won kudos at Sundance. To boot, it has some funky Twin Peaks-ish music.
2) Three Times
Hou Hsiao Hsien’s brilliant film showed at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, and was screening at Cinematheque Ontario but I had rehearsal that night.

Both are conveniently playing at the Cumberland Theatre so seeing both in one night is do-able. If anyone is keen to see either, on Monday or Thursday next week, let me
know!
know!
wow…do they have many different selections and all the latest movies?
ooh, i’m curious how the lord of the rings stage production turns out… you’ll have to let us know!
That is a really good idea for DVD rentals! Too bad they’re downtown!
lord of the ring stage play? I wonder how the gollum will look like..
I hated Brick. :) Let me know if you like it.
Wow LOTR on stage? I just can’t imagine how it is done! Smart idea for the Cinematic! However, lazy guys like me would still wanna download everything at home and watch them home without having to ever go out lol
I can’t imagine Lord of the Rings as a stage play. By the way, I can never match my shirt and tie. I need someone to dress me!
i really need to see a movie. it’s been too long.
