I was saying to G last week at breakfast how strange Kellog’s Raisin Bran raisins are.
Pouring my bowl this morning while G showered after our run, it hit me again. So I snapped this picture: on the left a few raisins I fished out of my cereal bowl; on the right, a couple Sunkist raisins I had in the cupboard for baking.
Notice the difference? Aside from the sugary coating … I mean, look at the size of those suckers! Mutant raisins for sure! One is near an inch long … almost prune like. It does get me thinking about what the hell Kellogs is feeding their grapes.
I wonder what wine made from these would taste like? …
Wednesday’s movie: Formula 17
I watched this movie earlier today and adored how precious and silly and irrelevant and fun it was. Not an Oscar contender granted but worth a watch. Tien heads to Taipei to find the love of his life and ends up attracted to a Brianesque (from Queer As Folk) playboy, Bai, who never beds twice. Predictable love story follows but it is handled in a refreshing manner, the climax being when Tien appears awkwardly at Bai’s door and says, “Let’s stop pretending. It’s tiring”. First time director, Chen Yin-Jung (a women) had a firm hand on the freestyling look she was after and its succeeds quite well.
The film will have you laughing out loud and employs Amie-like sequences where characters knowing acknowledge the camera. There are ellipses, cutesy flashbacks, and even a nod to Peking opera-style. Tien’s Taipei sidekick, Yu, is hilariously, over-the-top gay. Actually, all characters in this movie are gay which I would think was somewhat of a first for Taiwanese films.
An endearing little film which I’ll certainly watch again.
Note: sadly, this film continues to be banned in one of my least favourite police states, Singapore. Also please note: I love the people, but thoroughly dislike the oppressive, backwards government they continue to tolerate.
Wednesday’s soon-to-be-released music: Will Wong’s “W for Whot”
Get ahead of the music curve and listen to tomorrow’s superstar, today. Eprops to fellow xangster and friend, willariah, for his soon-to-be released CD. You can check out a couple of Will’s songs here. Go visit, go enjoy!
Wednesday’s music single: “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley
If you’ve not heard this one yet, go grab it. Fantastic, groovy, funky, and worth space on any iPod. Listen for the church bells and helicopter in the background. The US album release is set for May 9th.
Wednesday’s dinner: Veal cutlets in green peppercorn sauce
Continuing with gourmet week here at Brent’s place, we had these tonight served simply with peas and new potatoes. Oh, the sauce was so yummy.
Right on – Ownership sums it all up.
yikes… veal … poor baby cows…
ryc: thanks for the words of encouragement!
thank you for the plug:) xoxo. yes, those raisins MUST be genetically mutated. Either that or they are reject raisins of some sort from which overgrew and didn’t make the grocery store cut and kellog’s picked up on them. the worst is cereal with dried strawberries. blah.
I like the movie Formula 17,and I brought the VCD too. It is very good movie which I always recommend my friend to watch!!!
ooo that looks good!- jimmy
they used to be smaller then they were given steroids hahaha
Some grape does grow bigger than others.. i’ve seen a picture of a giant grape somewhere before, the size of a plum!
our national treasure resident bad boy film-maker is an international star, the likes of whom Brad Pitt’s Plan B studio has repeatedly tried to win over to do some movies, and Canada, France and America have tried repeatedly to rope in in exchange for citizenship, happens to be gay and does very homoerotic movies about local issues like gangsterism. im sure you’ve heard of him: royston tan. if not: hie yourself to one of his films. he represents the unrepresented in my country.
I saw the trailer for formula 17..looks cool..haha.. I heard they inject female hormones into chickens to make them chubby in thailand..maybe thats why my friends say I came back with breasts..KFC there is fantastic!!
And about the govt. , have no comments :S election is coming up..so shh…haha..well we’re really alright with them bcos of the safe and peaceful state.(maybe thats the problem, we expect too little?) nvm..I don’t wanna get charged for what I said..you know it happens here.
It’s sad these days that almost everything we eat have chemicals in it. I laugh when I see juices that says “made when 10% real fruits”…what’s the other 90% ?
It would be like those farmers feeding their chicken with steroids to make them grow faster and bigger. Dinner to go please!
MUTANT RAISINS! Next they will be attacking those who try to eat them. I still fear “The Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes” remember that one. You veal look delicious. I had a chicken salad on texas toast for supper.
RYC: Thanks for the comment. Somehow we forget that each of us needs his own space.
ryc: Yes, IM Malaysia is usually in February. It’s on an island north Malaysia. You and G should participate next year. I’m still new in this sport…currently training for the Olympic distance. My upcoming triathlon event is on May 27 in Bintan Island, Indonesia. Should be fun!
Yet again, I am drooling over the veal cutlet.
ryc = if only i could go … *sigh* i don’t know a hint of hebrew so it would be a bit difficult to read and decipher texts and scrolls, but i think i’ll manage. but yeah, i would love to go to the middle east and look at the sites and stuff. i was thinking about studying abroad in the UK summer 07, but now i might change my mind and study in israel, greece, or turkey =)btw about that movie, sounds like a great movie although i’m very tired of having gay films with 2 shirtless guys on the cover; it’s a horrible assumption and stereotype about gay movie covers; arg, i once dated someone who hated that so much, he’d turn the dvd boxes around at blockbuster whenever he saw that. haha
wow, giant raisins! i hope they’re not genetically engineered…
Ugh, I’m hungry…! And I’ve never noticed that about the raisins…I just eat ’em.
