Lollicakes, the new cupcake and etc store on Mt. Pleasant, finally opened today. G stopped by at lunch and picked up a half dozen for the inevitable taste-test comparison with Toronto’s premier cupcake store, The Cupcake Shoppe on Yonge Str, north of Eglinton.
Suffice to say, the Cup Cake Shoppe has nothing to worry about. These are not the butter-cream joys associated with that outfit. Lollicakes bills their cupcakes nut- and dairy-free. Fine. In appearance, Lollicakes are the country cousins of the more refined and elegant city versions found at The Cupcake Shoppe. They are smaller (likely a result of the their dairyfreeness) and have far more icing placed far less perfectly on their caps (likely a result of first day opening rushing).
Where Lollicakes falls however is with the icing … it is too sweet, too chalky, too Duncan-Hines-out-of-can tasting.
Hmmm if they are worse than The Cupcake Shop then that is sad. Magnolia have very yummy cupcakes. The cake is more buttery and rich. LOL. So bad for you!
lawd so much hype surrounding this place. yes, i would agree on appearances alone that the cupcake shoppe is in a league of its own. perhaps i will visit again tmw. muahahaha.
Oh wow… it looks decadent. I think I just gained a couple of pounds just reading your entry!
ewww… i don’t like frosting much, it’s the part i always scrape off and don’t eat. unless i made it myself, then i have no problems eating it =D
