On Friday G and I headed to the bizarre world that is Niagara Falls for the start of our mini-break. Niagara Falls is the (self-billed) “honeymoon capital of the world”. But, for me at least, it is the last place on earth I’d want to honeymoon. It is also a city in transformation – morphing itself from a trashy, Roseanne-world-like feel into what will no doubt become the “Las Vegas of the North”.
The old Clifton Hill area remains a fun, bizarre, wonky world of arcades, Haunted Houses, wax museums and more neon than you can shake a stick at. Up the road a bit, near the Canadian Falls, is rising Las Vegas North with three ultra-deluxe hotels, a new casino and swank shopping.
1) moi at TGI Fridays; 2) our hotel on Clifton Road: the Sheraton; 3) the ‘new’ Niagara Falls
4) inside the swank new Sheraton; 5) the American Falls; 6) the classic Niagara Falls photo
7) the Skylon Tower; 8) me outside the World’s Greatest Museum; 9) the tightrope walker goes waaaay up
10) the Ferris Wheel up close; 11) Clifton Hill from our hotel at night
hahaha, I love that “Roseanne-world-like feel”. It instantly clicked and I think I even snorted. Hahaha! I don’t know how much fun you had, but reading about it makes me wanna go (=!
nice video! I must’ve gone to Niagara Falls half a dozen times with my family during my youth. I don’t agree with the “Honeymoon capital…” thing either….it’s more like the chinese tour bus capital of the world. Anyway, the falls do look great and I’m yearning for a visit in my adulthood.
what’s that american falls? it’s near the city?
wow, i’ve nevr been to niagra falls. you’re right, though, it does seem to be turning into a new las vegas, at least from the pictures you took. i don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.
RYC: I am soooooo jealous. I loved the Festival at Stratford. I used to go every year until I moved to Florida.
