G and I spent our weekend dragonboating at Marilyn Bell Park, which is site of a World Championship dragonboat course. This weekend was the Great White North (GWN) Challenge. I’m happy to report that Team Typhoons, our recreational team, finished with a silver medal in the “J” Division. That’s hells better than our showing last year in this same race. Our sister team, the competitive Team Cyclones, finished 3rd in “D” Division.
Saturday was a perfect day for paddling … Sunday morning … not so much. It poured rain. NOT fun. Still, our team of misfits endured and managed not only a team best time of 2:23:74 on Saturday morning but also a silver in a hard fought J Championship Race. My thanks go out to G, who, at the last minute, volunteered his time and entire weekend to paddle alongside us in the boat. G has never paddled (save the couple times at the cottage and once on the Thames down at Riverside). He’s a quick learner, however, and I’m sure was instrumental in us achieving a silver. Thanks G!

2) some random dragon someone put in the port-a-pot; 3) our team tent Saturday; 4) the races begin with Etobicoke in the background

8) more races; 9) the dragonhead Team Cyclones broke off their boat after a run-in with a rowboat (now our mascot); 10) the corporate tents

13) our camp site on a rainy Sunday morning; 14) my stuff drying; 15) Cyclones seek cover … whimps! hehe
RYC: I totally agree about expanding our circle of friends. But as I get older I tend to be more selective with whom I spend time.
WOW! I haven’t seen water ballet moves like the one G is doing since I ran the spotlight for the junior high school women’s synchronized swimming teams. Er, I guess I have watched some water ballet in the Olympics. Tell G to point that toe!
hehehe… which building r u talking about? :) water ballet? :)
Congrats on the Silver!
congrats!ryc: i’m glad you read it too. i probably wouldn’t read my own post if i wrote about something extremely religious, so you don’t have to worry about any of that from me.
Congrats on the medal!! You guys must have done very nice team work there!!
