La Grande Dame

To celebrate our first real sleep at the condo last night, we opened up a 1996 bottle of Veuve Clicquot Le Grande Dame Champagne G brought back from Hong Kong a couple years ago. Needless to say, it was outstanding. Okay, so yes, being totally pretentious pricks, G and I drink a lot of champagne, but damn, La Grande Dame is sweet!

1) there is nothing finer … save The Dom

For dinner, I prepared:

  • Peking duck terrine;
  • Sunchoke, leek and kale soup with roasted pumpkin seeds (excellent!). Sunchokes (aka Jerusalem artichokes) are underused tubers that deserve more advertising. Native to North America, they are actually related to the sunflower family;
  • Spinach, beetroot and mandarin orange salad; and,
  • Chizoro, spanish rice and asparagus

It was all uber fabulous and we had a ball – courtesy Madame Clicquot – building “Bucky”. Bucky is a totally tacky yet endearing 3-dimensional deer decoration we picked up at W Hotel. Bucky is hot and will look great above the Clairtone in the dinningroom.

4 & 5) early days … not bad for 2 days post-move … OMG, we SO need colour on those walls … not to mention window treatments

    Yes, I agree that you guys should let out the Grande Dame to honor the big move!! I love your designer chairs, so stylish (and the buck head too)!

    Not pretentious at all.  Champagne (and, for those of us on a budget, sparkling wine) makes life so much nicer.  It turns every day into a celebration, which is just as it should be.
