To celebrate our first real sleep at the condo last night, we opened up a 1996 bottle of Veuve Clicquot Le Grande Dame Champagne G brought back from Hong Kong a couple years ago. Needless to say, it was outstanding. Okay, so yes, being totally pretentious pricks, G and I drink a lot of champagne, but damn, La Grande Dame is sweet!
For dinner, I prepared:
- Peking duck terrine;
- Sunchoke, leek and kale soup with roasted pumpkin seeds (excellent!). Sunchokes (aka Jerusalem artichokes) are underused tubers that deserve more advertising. Native to North America, they are actually related to the sunflower family;
- Spinach, beetroot and mandarin orange salad; and,
- Chizoro, spanish rice and asparagus
It was all uber fabulous and we had a ball – courtesy Madame Clicquot – building “Bucky”. Bucky is a totally tacky yet endearing 3-dimensional deer decoration we picked up at W Hotel. Bucky is hot and will look great above the Clairtone in the dinningroom.
