Kid at Heart

Today’s topic is
Kinder Surprise. These ‘chocolates’ have been around forever it seems and
contain a ‘surprise’ in each egg. I always enjoy the toy construction far more than the
chocolate itself.
Here’s mine from
today.

Pic003

In each Kinder
Surprise you also get a magicode which you can use at the Magic Kinder site to
play special games and such. I tried using my code for the first time today and
got a fun yet meaningless game sort of reminiscent of Pong.

Anyhow, the question
is: Do you actually eat the chocolate that comes with the
toy?….

Wednesday’s movie:
The Promise (aka Wu Ji)

2006_the_promise_003

Saw an advanced
screening of this tonight at the Cumberland courtesy Warner Independent
Pictures. It’s out in limited release as of Friday.

Now, I know if you
google this film, you’ll see a host of posts about how ‘bad’ it is. I’m sorry
all you paid reviewers, but I’ve now seen this film 3 times and loved it each
time (even though the North American version has been cut considerably – about
20 minutes – from the original release). Sadly, I fear, North American attention
spans are far shorter than those in Asia.

What is crucial to
enjoying this movie is suspending your natural inner eye to see everything as
realistic. If you are the type of person that finds fault with movies because –
on the surface – they don’t make sense, this is not the movie for you. If,
however, you let go of your realistic side, there is a fantastic, romantic,
moralistic fairy tale at work that prompts questions about fate and
predestination.

And my gawd, it’s
ravishing on the big screen. Eprops to Peter Pau (he of Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon fame) for his cinematography.

Wow so is it a Hollywood production? It looks quite nice even though I am not into movies with contemporary Chinese settings.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on “The Promise”. I just took a look at the trailer and I know I will enjoy it. I always try to approach movies as just an entertainment vehicle. I mean, how often in our hectic and busy lives today, do we get a chance to suspend reality for a couple of hours and let someone guide us through their fantasy world? And the other reason I know I will enjoy it – Nic (I just have a soft spot for him).
