Eating locally

Today G and I picked up our first of many food baskets from Culinarium, which is acting as a depot for KEG – Kawartha Ecological Growers. Today’s basket had: fresh Ontario strawberries; rhubarb; peas; spinach; spring onions; romaine lettuce; mesclun and garlic scapes. Mmmmmm….

We have a half share with Kawartha Ecological Growers (recently featured in Toronto Life magazine) who are part of the ‘slow food’ organic movement. This outfit is a collection of small, artisanal farms that produce good, clean, fair food (heirloom vegetables, unique fruits, heritage & rare breed meats and fresh cut herbs and flowers).

I notice that our Publix market is carrying a larger and larger organic food section and of course there is the organic section at the farmers market!!
